Aromatica and the Canadian Myomassology Institute have partnered with Journey Within to offer for the first time ever, their professional myomassology training programs in Northern Ontario at Iroquois Falls.  This is the first time any massage school has operated this far North of the Great Lakes and we will serve all of the communities of Northern Ontario, James Bay as well as Rouyn Noranda in Quebec.

Owner and Operator of Journey Within, Diane Chorney is a former graduate of Aromatica and the Canadian Myomassology Institute, and has since undertaken further studies to be granted the designation of Myomassology Instructor.  Chorney, has opened the Northern location in answer to a growing need for schools in the North.  Many prospective students have difficulty overcoming barriers to education such as relocation costs, loss of employment and moving from family and friends.  The satellite location at Iroquois Falls overcomes these barriers, allowing students to stay close to home while receiving a quality education in the field of massage.

Aromatica and the Canadian Myomassology Institute specialize in delivering professionally recognized and fully accredited massage training in remote locations. They accept a maximum of 6 students, something that the major colleges will not do. This means they deliver lots of one-on-one instruction too. Aromatica fills a void in the educational market place for this type of training and we have the expertise and the 'know how' to make it happen.

Our Iroquois Falls location is the newest satellite school and Jeffrey Cottam the Myo program Director for Aromatica could not be happier. "It is a really wonderful location on waterfront property. The Instructor is Diane Chorney who graduated from our Myomassology program at Cape Chin on Georgian Bay 7 years ago. She is a wonderful person, a skilled practitioner with an impeccable reputation who runs a very busy private practice from this location too. She has the experience and the ability to run a successful school here."
Cottam adds "it reminds me a lot of our location at Cape Chin - just being able to teach outside sometimes in a scenic location such as this is uplifting to the soul and a very healthy experience for all concerned. Don't forget that our training is all hands-on which means that each student gets on the massage table 2 or 3 times a day so they are going to be feeling great and have their own conditions treated throughout the training process also."

Laughter and having fun is another element that Cottam encourages during class time. "We get the job done, that's always number one. We work professionally and ethically while concentrating on all the technical aspects - however classroom laughter is acceptable and encouraged. Laughter brings camaraderie, harmony and a sense of joyful wellbeing to the classroom. After all, laughter is the best medicine - so why not?" says Cottam.

Students from Northern Ontario in this program commute to class on a daily basis or opt to enjoy superb overnight accommodations in several beautiful guesthouses that feature all the amenities. Classes run 7 consecutive days each month, for 6 months culminating in exams. Graduates are finished in 6 months and the cost of tuition is much more affordable than other options in the market place. Classes run every March and September.

Prospective students are not the only benefactors of this program. Health care consumers in the North will also benefit from a stream of highly trained professionals of Natural Medicine in their communities. This means more health care choices for them with a more natural, hands-on approach which offers an alternative treatment process for neck, shoulder, hip and back pain without the sometimes harmful side effects associated with conventional drug therapy.

Certified Myomassology Practitioners, or CMPs as they are known, are trained in Swedish techniques plus unique Myomassology techniques (Myomassology is sometimes referred to as the 'holistic' form of bodywork ). For those clients suffering with pain due to imbalances, Myomassologists incorporate unique techniques such as Contraction Release Therapy (CRT) and Leg & Hip Balancing for Sciatica and Chronic Back Pain conditions.

Myomassologists also incorporate many other bodywork modalities into their sessions, or as 'stand-alone' treatments - such as Tuina Chinese Medical Massage, Acupressure, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Craniosacral Therapy and much more. Myomassologists design treatment protocols that are unique for each individual client, this recognizes each individual as unique and is the cornerstone, or 'hallmark' of a Myomassologist's training and of a Myomassology session.

CERTIFIED MYOMASSOLOGY PRACTITIONER (C.M.P.) PROGRAM

Aromatica offers Canada's FIRST and ONLY Certified Myomassology Practitioner Program. Our students graduate equipped to offer a full-service practice to meet clients’ increasing demand for multi-modality, holistic treatment.

The single identifying feature about myomassology is that treatments are tailored to individuals, and a wide range of modalities are deployed. Myomassology gives us more tools in the toolbox. Basic massage focuses on Swedish massage only. Myomassology, however, treats the Swedish technique as one of a myriad of body techniques.

Spring and Fall Myomassology Programs Run Annually
We offer 2 Myomassology programs per year at Journey Within on beautiful Big Nellie Lake, ten minutes from Iroquois Falls, and 45 minutes from Timmins.  We will also be offering the program in Sudbury and North Bay starting Fall 2011. Programs begin in March and September. Each program runs for 6 months, with students attending our residential retreat for one week (7 straight days each month) from Monday morning though the following Sunday afternoon.

Long distance students are provided with accommodations at a nominal daily rate (contact us for more details) and usually arrive here on Sunday to be ready for class first thing Monday morning. Students tell us they feel like they are on vacation one week every month!

There are 6 Modules of study to complete prior to graduation. The first being an easy home study component - Anatomy & Physiology. This is completed at home using a learning system which incorporates an ‘easy to read’ glossy text book loaded with colourful illustrations, an accompanying work book and CD. This allows flexibility for study time. The reading component is so necessary in this type of study and is best completed at home.

The remaining 5 modules are completed at our retreat-style centre at Iroquois Falls in scenic Northern Ontario or at our satellite locations in Sudbury and North Bay.  Instruction periods consist of 7 straight days of hands-on, in-class hours each month - Monday through Sunday. Each 7 day training session includes a myomassage component plus other Modalities each week such as Aromatherapy Oil Blending for massage, Reflexology, CranioSacral Therapy, Pregnancy massage (includes Moxibustion to turn Mal-Positioned and Breech Babies plus Acupressure Analgesic Points for use During Labour), Acupressure & Tuina Chinese Medical massage, Contraction Release Therapy (CRT), Leg & Hip Balancing, Traditional Chinese Fire Cupping & Cupping Massage, Chair massage and Full-Body Paraffin Therapy.

Classes commence at 9 am each day and finish at 4 pm. Students' time is their own before and after class to explore the area’s many hiking trails, swim on our private beach, bike around the lake, or simply relax with a book in our gazebo. Immersion in this type of hands-on training over 7 straight days each month allows the student to focus on their studies and increases their knowledge, technique, transition, flow and skill levels considerably. Students are given assignments and must practice what they have learned in the interim periods at home between classes each month.

I was one of the lucky first ones to take the Myo course out of Nellie Lake. Diane has the perfect set-up out there: beautiful, relaxing, away-from-it-all! Jeff and Diane are fantastic teachers, and there was never a boring day at school - always lots of laughs. Diane definitely has a very positive influence on everyone around her! Taking this course was the most positive thing I've done for myself in a long time, and I'll never look back. Thank you Di! Love ya!

August 17, 2010 The Myomassology program on Nellie Lake was a life changing experience for me, we had an amazing teacher that stood by our side and pushed us to grow. Not only did she teach us myomassage but she taught us many lessons in life as well. Class was always something I looked forward to, we learned a lot but also had fun while learning. Great program!! 2 thumbs up! Love you Di, SK

I was one of the lucky students who attended Journey Within's Myomassology program. The holistic approach in including ancient healing modalities within the program, was one of the main reasons I chose this school. I have a toddler at home, therefore I am very busy, but the 1 week per month at school definitely suited my schedule. I loved the fact that we were only six students; our learning was that much more tended to because Diane could take that extra time to help us when needed. We had plenty of laughs, heart to hearts, and even tears, but it was an experience and opportunity of a lifetime. I am grateful for the knowledge and friendships. Thank you Diane
